Hamilton Kitchen Scan
This research project aims to ‘assess the availability of community spaces with kitchens where people can learn and cook for themselves’; as per Action 12.3 of Hamilton’s Food Strategy (2016). This goal is being achieved by developing and implementing a telephone-based survey of community owned facilities with a kitchen to develop an inventory of kitchen spaces, determine whether community organizations wish to and are able to make their kitchens available, how best to disseminate the information and assess whether there is a need to develop additional community kitchen infrastructure. Research associates in the Centre for Studies in Food Security are working with Hamilton Public Health Services nutrition professionals to implement and analyze results of the survey. Survey results will inform program planning and development related to community kitchen infrastructure by the municipal government.
