To be considered for any and all internal GCM awards students must apply through the AwardSpring - Toronto Metropolitan University's Awards and Scholarships, website.

Fall 2023: The deadline to apply and be considered for GCM awards and scholarships is Sunday, October 15, 2023

Award Year of Study  Description

Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund – CPISTF ($1,500, renewable)

First year GCM student

CPISTF together with their community of donors, provide scholarships to graphic communications students in approved Canadian college and university programs. Several scholarships are awarded to incoming first year students with the highest grades. This scholarship is renewable for four years.

Canon Scholarship in Graphic Communications Project Management ($1,000)

 

Canon Canada is the leading provider of consumer, business and medical digital imaging innovation. Canon is interested in investing in GCM at Toronto Metropolitan University as they have hired many successful graduates from the program. The award will be given to the student who attains the highest GPA in the course Project Management for Graphic Communications - GCM 375.

Canon PRISMAsync Colour Management Scholarship ($1,000)

 

Canon Canada is the leading provider of consumer, business and medical digital imaging innovation. Canon is interested in investing in GCM at Toronto Metropolitan University as they have hired many successful graduates from the program. This is awarded to the GCM student with the highest GPA in GCM 360 Colour Management for Graphic Communications - in the previous academic year.

Hans Muller Sr. Award of Excellence in Graphic Arts Finishing (Trophy)

Third year GCM student

Presented to the student who has achieved first place standing in Bindery & Finishing (GCM 250) in the previous academic year.

Konica Minolta Digital and Variable Data Printing Award ($1,000)

Fourth year GCM student

Awarded to the GCM student with the highest standing in Digital Printing Technologies (GCM 320) in the previous academic year.

SGK Award ($500) Third year GCM student Presented to the student demonstrating the greatest overall improvement in GPA between first and second year.
William Somerville Memorial Award for Excellence ($500) Fourth year GCM student The William Somerville Memorial Award is presented to the GCM student who demonstrated excellence in electronic prepress technology with the highest GPA in their first three years of the program. Courses include: Design and Layout (GCM 130), Digital Premedia Workflows (GCM 260), Colour Management (GCM 360), and Web and Cross Media (GCM 362).

C J Graphics Inc. Award ($1,000)

Second year or higher GCM student

CJ Graphics Inc. offers more than just printing services – they offer unique solutions to help their clients market their products and sell more. They are dedicated to the promotion of innovative business practices & supporting the community. CJ is truly a 1 stop solution with all their services under 1 roof and with the most dedicated craftsman. As CJ knows how important awards and Scholarships are to foster great future employees that is why CJ continues every year to  support TMU & the GCM Awards. To apply to this award you must write a short, 250 word, statement describing your community involvement at GCM, The Creative School and/or TMU (examples include involvement in clubs, volunteering on a committee or student group etc.). Students must show financial need and be enrolled in second year or higher and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
Cliff Hawes Memorial Scholarship ($200)   This award recognizes a student in the School of Graphic Communications Management who best exemplifies Toronto Metropolitan University spirit through scholastic leadership, initiative and community service. When applying through AwardSpring students are asked to describe how they best embody the Toronto Metropolitan spirit through their scholastic leadership, initiative and community service.
Gary Hanna Graphic Communications Award ($8,000)

Third or fourth year GCM student

This award is presented to a student enrolled in third or fourth year of the GCM program, with a minimum 3.00 CGPA and demonstrated financial need. Students will need to answer, “How and in what ways will receiving this award allow you to contribute to the GCM community and the related printing industries?” in their application on AwardSpring.

Konica Minolta Digital Embellishment Award ($1,000)

Student who took GCM 720

Awarded to a student with the best project in digital embellishment, as determined by a panel of Toronto Metropolitan University faculty and staff, coordinated by the School of Graphic Communications Management. Through AwardSpring please upload your project in digital embellishment and a brief artist statement about your work (max 250 words) as one PDF on AwardSpring. 

PAC Global Awards of Resilience ($5,000 in total)

Second year or higher GCM student

Awarded to 5 students in the Graphic Communication Management program who show an interest in joining the Canadian Packaging Industry. Students must submit a written statement through AwardSpring addressing these two points: 1. Explain your interest and commitment to joining the Canadian packaging industry; and 2. Write about an obstacle you have had to overcome to pursue your education (e.g. working several jobs while in school).
PAC IOU Scholarship ($1,000)   Kellogg’s is to be awarded to a GCM student in packaging who identifies as being part of a marginalized group. Keeping with the PAC IOU purpose to "champion packaging design by everyone for everyone," and Kellogg's purpose "To create a seat at the table for everyone", PAC seeks to leave no one behind, and champions change for all abilities, ages, disabilities, learning styles, classes, genders, life experiences, neurodiversities, races/ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and any other difference. Applicants will need to provide a written statement on AwardSpring describing their unique approach to packaging innovation and design, focusing on inclusivity and universal design. 

Ricoh Print Innovation Scholarship ($2,000)

 

This award is open to all Toronto Metropolitan students enrolled in a School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) course who used the five-colour capability of the Ricoh C7210 printer, as well as Toronto Metropolitan student clubs who use the five-colour capability of the Ricoh C7210 printer. Submissions will be nominated by GCM instructors. A panel of judges will assess and select the best design, based on criteria such as design creativity, technical difficulty, and innovative use. SinaLite Awards of Excellence In Premedia
($2,500)

Third or fourth year GCM student

SinaLite strives to empower the next generation of print industry leaders by helping students get started in premedia. This award is meant to encourage and support students who exhibit excellence in premedia and workflows, which SinaLite believes are the foundations of efficient print manufacturing. Students need to have a minimum CGPA of 2.67 and will need to submit a 250 word essay outlining how GCM 260 Digital Premedia Workflows has helped you professionally and/or personally. And demonstrate an excellent quality for the assignment in the GCM 260 Digital Premedia Workflows. Please upload your assignment onto AwardSpring.
The Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging Award
($2,000)
GCM student(s) in third or fourth year Tempo Flexible Packaging strives to empower students in industry and bring more awareness towards the sustainability aspects of flexible packaging. Tempo would like to support students’ ideas towards the future of a circular economy. Tempo believes this will be best done by fostering young minds to find key solutions. Awarded to a group or partnership of GCM students in GCM 746 who have effectively shown their knowledge through the interpretation of the Life Cycle Analysis software by utilizing it to compare against flexible packaging. Students must demonstrate this through the completion of their Life Cycle Analysis project. Please submit a 250 word written statement outlining your interest in sustainability within the packaging industry that demonstrates a commitment to embedding sustainability, life-cycle thinking and circular flexible packaging values through AwardSpring.
The Sandy Stephens Award for Campus Involvement for 2nd and 3rd Year Students ($2,500)   An award that will encourage full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Graphic Communications Management to participate more fully in university and campus life and minimize the need for a part-time job. The award will be eligible for students entering 2nd year of the Graphic Communications Management program. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to volunteer work, extracurricular activities, campus involvement and/or leadership skills. Examples include, but are not limited to involvement in campus clubs and athletics, student unions, clubs and extracurricular groups within the School of GCM, The Creative School and TMU. Baden-Württemberg Scholarship (€ 600 to 1,400 per month)

 

GCM students embarking on exchange to HdM in Stuttgart, Germany

This scholarship is for students who are going on exchange to the Hochschule der Medien (HdM) in Stuttgart, Germany. The minimum amount is Euro 500/month.

Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association Scholarship - FFTA (USD $3,000 each renewable)

Eligible: Fourth year GCM students with 3.00 GPA or higher

Since 1982, the Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association (FFTA) has been providing financial aid to students who demonstrate an interest in the fields of flexography and/or graphic communications. Recipients are full-time students currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university and majoring in a program with flexography as a course of study, and who have a 3.00 or higher GPA.

Paperboard Packaging Alliance Scholarship (USD $750)



The School must participate in the student design challenge and the student has to be in third or fourth year of the program and in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or higher). The student must demonstrate financial need and be pursuing a concentration in packaging.

Paperboard Packaging Alliance Student Design competition (USD $5,000 for 1st place, USD $3,000 for 2nd place, USD $1,500 for 3rd place)

 
Every year the paperboard packaging alliance holds a student design competition, which is paired with a scholarship (see above).

 

Tag and Label Manufacturing Institute (TLMI)(USD $5,000 renewable)

 

Sophomores (2nd year) or juniors (3rd year) who demonstrate interest in entering the tag and label industry and will attend a 4-year accredited college or university on a full-time basis during their junior or senior year are encouraged to apply. Min. CGPA = 3.0.

The application requires 3 references. Deadline is usually at the end of March.

Xplor Scholarship (USD $500 to $1,000)

Active Xplor Members or immediate family of an Xplor member

Scholarship recipients are selected based on their pursuit of a career in the electronic document and communications industry, which includes all phases of document and communication creation and delivery, academic achievement, and participation in school activities and service to the community.
