Award Year of Study  Description

Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund – CPISTF ($1500, renewable

First year students

Twenty scholarships are awarded to incoming first year students with the highest grades. This scholarship is renewable for four years.

Canon Scholarship in Graphic Communications Project Management ($1000)

 

Awarded to the GCM student who completed GCM 375 in the previous academic year and attained the highest GPA in the course. The student must also have a minimum CGPA of 2.67 and be registered full-time.

Canon PRISMAsync Colour Management Scholarship ($1000)

 

Awarded to the GCM student who completed GCM 360 in the previous academic year and attained the highest GPA in the course. The student must also have a minimum CGPA of 2.67 and be registered full-time.

Francesco Giorgio Memorial Award ($2500)

Graduated GCM student

Awarded to the fourth year GCM student team that developed the most innovative business plan for a new graphic communications company in the previous academic year.

Hans Muller Sr. Award of Excellence in Graphic Arts Finishing (Trophy)

Third year student

Presented to the student who has achieved first place standing in Bindery & Finishing (GCM 250) in the previous academic year.

Jeff Watson Memorial Award ($500)

Graduated GCM student who was enrolled in the previous academic year

Awarded to the GCM student who achieved the highest standing in GCM 460 Asset Management for Graphic Communications and GCM 461 Workflow Automation.

Konica-Minolta Digital Embellishment Award ($1000)

 

Award is presented to the GCM student who has created the best digital embellishment cover in Magazine Production and Publishing, GCM 720 as determined by a panel of faculty and staff judges.

Konica-Minolta Digital and Variable Data Printing Award ($1000)

Fourth year GCM student

Awarded to the GCM student with the highest standing in Digital and Variable Data Printing (GCM 320) in the previous academic year.

Narinder and Deepa Lal Award ($7500)

Second year or higher GCM student

Students must have completed first-year in the GCM program and be currently enrolled on a full-time basis; be in good academic standing; have a minimum GPA of 2.67; and have demonstrated financial need.

Ricoh Print Innovation Scholarship ($2000)

Third year GCM student

Awarded to the GCM student who has demonstrated the greatest overall improvement in GPA between first and second year of the program

William Somerville Memorial Award ($500)

Fourth year GCM student

Awarded to the GCM student who demonstrated excellence in electronic prepress technology with the highest grades in their first three years of the program. Courses include: Design and Layout (GCM 130), Digital Premedia Workflows (GCM 260), Colour Management (GCM 360), and Web and Cross Media (GCM 362). 

Award Year of Study Description

C. J. Graphics Inc. Award ($1000)

Third year or higher GCM student

This award is for students who have completed a group project in Sustainability in Print and Packaging, GCM 746. To be considered for the award students must submit their group project plus a one page written statement outlining the features of the work and how their design ideas promote sustainability in packaging and/or printing. Students must also be enrolled in third year or higher and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Personal statement required .

Gary Hanna Graphic Communications Award ($7200)

Third or fourth year GCM student

This award is presented to a student currently enrolled in third or fourth year, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants need to submit a personal statement explaining why they should receive the award. Personal statement required.

GCM Service Award ($1000)

Third or fourth year GCM student

This award is presented to a student who has contributed to life at GCM and Ryerson while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. A personal statement explaining the applicant’s suitability for the award must be submitted as an application. Personal statement required.

PAC Award of Excellence ($5000 in total)

Second year students

Awarded to a student who has completed one of the courses below. One award is available per course.
$1000: GCM 800 Tags, Labels and Bags: Flexo Processes
$1000: GCM 808 Outside the Box: Package Prototyping
$1000: GCM 746 Sustainability in Print & Packaging
$1000: GCM 810 Creativity, Clients and Design
$1000: GCM 750 3D Printing

Students must submit a written statement addressing two points:
1. Explain your interest and commitment to joining the Canadian packaging industry; and
2. Write about an obstacle you have had to overcome to pursue your education (ie. Work several jobs while in school).

Award Eligibility Description

 

Baden-Württemberg Scholarship (€ 500 to 1400 per month)

 

GCM students embarking on exchange to HdM in Stuttgart, Germany

Deadline: March 2022

This scholarship is for students who are going on exchange to the Hochschule der Medien (HdM) in Stuttgart, Germany. The minimum amount is Euro 500/month. Application deadline is the end of March of the year before going on exchange.

Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association Scholarship - FFTA (USD $3000 each renewable)

Eligible: Fourth year GCM students with 3.00 GPA or higher


Since 1982, the Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association (FFTA) has been providing financial aid to students who demonstrate an interest in the fields of flexography and/or graphic communications. Recipients are full-time students currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university and majoring in a program with flexography as a course of study, and who have a 3.00 or higher GPA.

Document Management and Graphic Communications Industry Scholarships
The EDSF scholarship program was initiated in 1999 to recognize and support the next generation of professionals for the Document Management and Graphic Communication industry. The industry encompasses the wide range of businesses and professionals involved in the creation, management, production, distribution and storage of print and electronic documents.

The EDSF scholarship program is supported by companies and individuals involved in the Document Management and Graphic Communications industry including: 4over, Alliance Franchise Brands, BCT, Bell + Howell, Canon, Conduit, Inc. – Publisher of CANVAS Magazine, EFI, Franchise Services, Gimbel & Associates, GMC Software, InfoTrends, InnerWorkings, Konica Minolta Business Solutions, NAPCO Media, Pitney Bowes, PrinterPresence, Veritiv Operating Company, formerly Unisource, Web2Print Experts, WhatTheyThink.com, Xeikon, and Xerox Corporation.

Paperboard Packaging Alliance Scholarship – USD $750

The School must participate in the student design challenge and the student has to be in third or fourth year of the program and in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or higher). The student must demonstrate financial need and be pursuing a concentration in packaging.

Paperboard Packaging Alliance Student Design competition – USD $5000 for 1st place, USD $3000 for 2nd place, USD $1500 for 3rd place

 


Every year the paperboard packaging alliance holds a student design competition, which is paired with a scholarship (see above). Information about this program can be found at www.paperboardpackaging.org/university-features, external link.

The deadline for submitting an entry to this competition is the end of May of the calendar year.

Rossini Scholarship

GCM students

To be considered for the scholarship, eligible students must propose a project which addresses an issue/topic/problem in the flexographic industry, identify a project faculty advisor, and provide a copy of their transcript(s) and three letters of recommendation.

The scholarship money is $22,500. A group of up to 4 students can participate on one project.  The monetary breakdown is outlined below for both the student/students as well as the educational institution.

First Place: USD $13,000
Student award = $10,000
Institutional award = $3,000

Second Place: USD $9,500
Student award = $7,500
Institutional award = $2,000

To be eligible to compete for the FFTA Rossini North America Flexographic Scholarship:

    Applicant must be a full-time student, sophomore or junior, currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university, or a second-year student currently enrolled in a 2-year or Technical College going on to a 4-year college or university.

    Project can be submitted by one student or a group of 2-4 students. (If submitted by a group, the group must select a Student Leader.)

    Applicant must be majoring in a program focusing on flexography as a course of study with a 3.0 GPA or better.

    Applicant must produce a flexographic project

    Applicant must complete the application and return by the deadline. Check the website for the specific date.

In addition to the monetary award, the student recipient(s) or student group leader recipient will be provided with an all-expense paid trip to the FTA Annual Forum, (dates vary each year); Baltimore, MD courtesy of Mr. & Mrs. Rossini. The recipients will be announced at the Awards Banquet.

Tag and Label Manufacturing Institute (TLMI) – USD $ 5000 renewable

 

Sophomores (2nd year) or juniors (3rd year) who demonstrate interest in entering the tag and label industry and will attend a 4-year accredited college or university on a full-time basis during their junior or senior year are encouraged to apply. Min. CGPA = 3.0.

The application requires 3 references. Deadline is usually at the end of March.

Xplor Scholarship (USD $500 to $1000)

Active Xplor Members or immediate family of an Xplor member

Scholarship recipients are selected based on their pursuit of a career in the electronic document and communications industry, which includes all phases of document and communication creation and delivery, academic achievement, and participation in school activities and service to the community.
