Joint letter from the GCM EDI Committee and the Chair to the GCM Family: Stop Asian Hate
Dear GCM Family,
We are saddened and angered by the recent increase in racially motivated violence against Pan-Asian and Asian-identifying communities in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout North America and stand in solidarity with the Asian Community. We condemn the malicious hate crimes against and injustices that have led to violence and senseless death, including recent events that took the lives of Delaina Ashley Yaun, Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Julie Park, Hyun Jeong Park Grant, Paul Andre Michels, Suncha Kim, Yong A. Yue.
We recognize the hurt, anger, grief and trauma experienced by Pan-Asian and Asian-identifying communities within the GCM family, including students, staff, CUPE, faculty and alumni. For many, the next few weeks will be exceptionally difficult, and we want you to know that we are here to help and support you in any way we can. To start, we have compiled a list of resources that can be referred to for help and support on a dedicated page of the GCM website. You can access this page by visiting ryerson.ca/gcm/stopasianhate.
The GCM EDI committee is organizing a live virtual event that will enable Pan-Asian and Asian-identifying members of the GCM family to share their own lived experiences and create a safe space where all of us within the GCM family can learn and grow. Details of this event will be shared shortly.
We welcome you to reach out to any one of us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Chris, Tannisha, Layal, Martin, Nicole, Joanna, Darsan and Jason
