Toronto Metropolitan University Chancellor Search

An aerial view of the university campus quad. Some students can be seen standing in small groups in the grass.

Toronto Metropolitan University has a history of outstanding, distinguished chancellors whose guidance and character have helped shape the growth of the institution. The chancellor is the ceremonial head of the university and confers all degrees, honorary degrees, diplomas and certificates and is an ex-officio member of the Board of Governors and Senate, advancing the priorities and interests of the university as its ambassador. TMU’s outstanding chancellors, including G. Raymond Chang, John Craig Eaton, David Crombie, Lawrence Bloomberg, and most recently Janice Fukakusa, have enhanced the connection between academic programs, research and the public good, and encouraged students and scholars in making an impact on social and economic well-being.

With Chancellor Fukakusa’s term nearing completion, TMU will welcome its next chancellor in the fall. The nomination period ended on March 1, 2024—a sincere thank you to those who have submitted a nomination.

A Chancellor Search Committee, chaired by the President and Vice-Chancellor, has been established to lead the search on behalf of the University. The Chancellor Search Committee is mandated by the By-Laws to “identify individuals to serve as Chancellor and to recommend to the Board for appointment one or more such individuals.” (the General By-Laws of Toronto Metropolitan University, section 10.3)
