Marketing and Business Strategy
I think of myself as the creative business type. I can think big, but know how to anchor those ideas with reality in order to make them viable. Being 6 months older than my best friend growing up meant that she would ask me everything, and I would have to know the answer. Why is the sky blue? Where do babies come from? How do they get the caramel into the Caramilk bars? These were the pressing issues I had to solve. Perhaps this is what led the path to my current profession. When organizations have a problem that needs solving or want to change directions and re-strategize, I thrive on being the person who can help guide that mission.
I have worked for the past 5 years as a business and marketing strategist for multiple organizations and for the past 3 years as an adjunct marketing professor. Working closely with organizations has allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of what issues businesses are facing and how to effectively apply strategies to help them meet their objectives. My role as an adjunct professor has allowed me to satisfy my need of helping others. It has also afforded me the opportunity to learn from fresh minds and gain a new perspective on emerging trends in the industry.
Why Digital Media?
Rather than making reactive decisions in response to the changing digital landscape, I would like to be a proactive business leader and be a part of that change. Enrolling in the MDM program at Ryerson was a strategic decision to not only equip myself with a relevant and in-demand skill set, but to also set myself apart from other graduates since this is just one of a few such programs offered in Canada.
