Dr. Janice Waddell

Dr. Janice Waddell joins YSGS as the inaugural Director of Experiential Learning.

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Janice Waddell has joined the Yeates School of Graduate Studies (YSGS) as the inaugural Director of Experiential Learning (EL), effective immediately until March 2019.

In this important new role, Janice will:

  • Conduct a systematic review of existing EL opportunities available in graduate programs at Ryerson, in order to identify best practices and gaps to be addressed.
  • Develop measures to track EL opportunities and outcomes at the graduate level.
  • Provide guidance and suggest resources to graduate programs looking to incorporate EL opportunities.

An associate professor in the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing and former associate dean for the Faculty of Community Services, Janice has extensive teaching and curriculum development experience in graduate education. Her research focuses on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the impact of experiential learning on bridging the theory-practice gap. Janice’s contributions to education have been recognized through numerous industry awards, as well as the Ryerson Provost’s Innovative Teaching Award and Chancellor’s Award of Distinction.

Please join me in welcoming Janice to YSGS and our graduate community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jennifer Mactavish
