Europe: Modern Russia; Soviet Union; Urban History

Dr. Katherine Zubovich is a historian of modern Europe who joined the Department of History in 2017. Prior to joining the faculty at Ryerson, she taught at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Dr. Zubovich’s research focuses on urban life and city planning in the former Soviet Union. At present, she is working on a book, under advance contract with Princeton University Press, that examines the history of a city-wide skyscraper construction project undertaken in Moscow during the Stalin era. She is also the author of a chapter on Moscow in the forthcoming edited volume Planning Eastern European Capital Cities, 1945-1990 (Routledge). Dr. Zubovich has taught courses on the Soviet Union, Medieval and Imperial Russia, the Socialist City, and surveys of World history. She looks forward in the coming years to teaching new courses in urban and modern European history.
