The Apprentice Program

About

The IBZ Apprentice Program connects Ryerson students with IBZ startups to create work-integrated learning opportunities.

This is a 4 month paid program (from January 2022 - April 2022) where students and startups are matched as Apprentice and startup to work on a project (or multiple smaller projects). The IBZ startup will provide the project or deliverable for Apprentice that can be completed within the program. At the end of the placement the Apprentice will receive a $525 stipend.

The vision behind the Apprentice program is to provide startups the talent support they need, while also allowing Ryerson students to grow their portfolio and equipping them for the workforce.

The Apprentice Program is open to all Ryerson undergraduate students and current IBZ startups.

The Apprentice Program is open for all Ryerson undergraduate students and current IBZ startups. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact ibz@ryerson.ca, opens in new window.

The program details are as follows:

  • The program runs for 4 months from January 2022 - April 2022.
  • The Apprentices are paid positions. They will receive a $525 stipend at the end of the placement.
  • During the program, the Apprentice will be working a maximum of 8-15 hours per month.
  • To get matched, the startup and students will participate in a networking event where they will get to meet and speak with one or more students interested in their startup.
  • Once matched, the Apprentice and startup will sign an agreement to set expectations before the term begins.

If accepted in the program, you will receive managerial and communications soft skill workshops and sessions. As a result, accepted startups are expected to provide their maximum commitment in the program. This includes:

  • Completing all mandatory check-in points with the IBZ team.
  • Continuous and clear communication with your Apprentice.
  • Being a strong leader to support your Apprentice and more.

Inability to accomplish the above commitments will result in risking your ability to apply to future intakes.

Please see the significant dates section for program key dates. To apply, please see the bottom of this page.

If accepted into the program, alongside working with your matched startup, you will be supplemented with the following programming:

  • Mandatory check-ins with the IBZ team to ensure you feel well-supported throughout the program.
  • Access to office hour sessions with the IBZ team where you can share program feedback, or get any extra advice or support you may need.
  • Access to personal development workshops designed to prepare you for the workforce.
  • Access to IBZ and Centre of Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship, opens in new window sessions, workshops and other opportunities.
