The BOOST Program

About

BOOST provides participants with an introduction into the entrepreneurial journey. Participants will do deep dives into topics such as validation, market research and communication as well as hear from founders and industry experts on their experiences within the world of entrepreneurship. 

If you have a startup idea or are just curious about entrepreneurship and innovation, BOOST is your introduction into the world of venture creation and entrepreneurship.

BOOST is open to all Ryerson students. 

The Details

BOOST is open to all Ryerson students. It runs for 8 weeks and consists of keynote sessions that cover the fundamental topics of venture creation as well as interactive sessions where participants will discuss challenges among themselves as well as with mentors.

Participants are expected to attend all sessions held during the duration of the program. 

At the end of the program, participants that successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and have the opportunity to join the IBZ Incubator to continue their entrepreneurial journey.

The program will consist of:

  • 101 intro to key entrepreneurial topics 
  • Interactive facilitate discussions with mentors and founders
  • Office hours to with IBZ advisor

Programming

Week 1

September 28th, 2021

6PM - 8PM

BOOST Welcome  + The Entrepreneurial Mindset

Participants will learn about what BOOST is about, overall methodologies, expectations and the why. There will also be an introduction into the entrepreneurial mindset.

Week 2

October 5th, 2021

6PM - 8PM

Interactive Session #1

This interactive session will focus on giving participants the opportunity to discuss topics covered in a facilitated discussion with an advisor and/or guest speaker.

Week 3

October 12th, 2021

6PM - 8PM

Market Validation

Participants will learn about the how and why proper market validation is fundamental, key concepts and tools to use when validating an idea.

Week 4

October 19th, 2021

6PM - 8PM

Interactive Session #2

This interactive session will focus on giving participants the opportunity to discuss topics covered in a facilitated discussion with an advisor and/or guest speaker.

Week 5

October 26th, 2021

6PM - 8PM

Intro to the Business Model Canvas

Participants will be given a  high level overview of the business model canvas and its relevance. We will focus on assessing market and product risk, the effect of this analysis on how you will conduct your market research & best practices. The presentation will conclude by analysing a case study of a company that failed to address these key areas, before entering the market.

Interactive Session #3

This interactive session will focus on giving participants the opportunity to discuss topics covered in a facilitated discussion with an advisor and/or guest speaker.

Week 7

November 9th, 2021

6PM - 8PM

How to Communicate Your Idea

This presentation will cover the strategies and best practices for creating a compelling business pitch and successfully communicating your idea. Whether that be talking to customers, investors or presenting at a conference. We will also draw on learnings from our previous presentations to teach you how to tailor your pitch for your audience.

November 16th, 2021

Closing Presentation and Next Steps

This session is close off the BOOST program with a keynote speaker and what the next steps are for participants.

BOOST is open to all Ryerson University students (undergraduate & graduate) from any Faculty that have an interest in entrepreneurship and/or starting their own business. Previous business experience or a venture idea is not a requirement.
