Emergency Funding

Toronto Metropolitan University and the School of Journalism have several emergency bursaries to assist students in acute financial need.

The Vincent J. Devitt Emergency Fund was created through the generous support of his family and friends to help undergraduate journalism students who need emergency or other financial support. It is available to both undergraduate and graduate students.

To apply:

Contact Jaclyn Mika to set up a meeting regarding why you would benefit from the funding.

Create an AwardSpring  (external link) profile. All funding must be granted through AwardSpring.

The SOS Fund (external link)  was created to assist journalism students with emergency financial needs. It is available to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Emergency Bursary Program (external link) 

TMU provides an emergency bursary program to help students with financial needs. The funding is intended to provide short-term assistance to students in severe financial need. It is only available in the Fall and Winter semesters. 

Before applying for an Emergency Bursary, students must first speak to a Financial Assistance Advisor via the ServiceHub.

It is expected that students first apply for government financial aid (OSAP or out-of-province funding) to ensure funding is maximized. Financial assistance advisors may also recommend alternative, external support and resources that may meet your needs instead of the Emergency Bursary.
