TMAC Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness Award

About the award

For a student journalist who addresses the racial, diversity and inclusiveness issues in the past, the movement we are seeing to combat racism today, and proposes ways that we can make the future better.

The Ontario Chapter of the Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC) believes a statement against anti-black racism is necessary. Our resolve is even stronger following several disturbing incidents of hate over the years against people of colour including Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and the murder of Asian women in Atlanta. Our goal is to reward a journalist who can address the racial, diversity and inclusiveness issues in the past, the movement we are seeing to combat racism today (Black Lives Matter, Anti-Asian hate, racism, 2SLGBTQ+), and propose ways that we can make the future better. The award is to be used by the student to assist with their studies or university living experience. We believe in a world without hate and the power of journalism. Together, we want to make a statement toward positive change.
