Timothy J. Bartkiw
Timothy J. Bartkiw is an associate professor in the Faculty of Law and the Department of Human Resources and Organizational Behaviour in the Ted Rogers School of Management. He is a member of the Bar of Ontario, and previously practiced law exclusively in the areas of labour and employment law.
Bartkiw’s academic research interests span the fields of labour and employment law and policy and industrial relations. He teaches various courses in labour and employment law and industrial relations at Ryerson. His current and past research relates to the legal concept of the employer and employee; the regulation of precarious work and employment and particularly triangular employment; the regulation of collective action and unionization; the collective bargaining framework; comparative labour and employment law; and the “legalization” of labour policy via Charter litigation. His research has been published in various international and domestic peer-reviewed academic journals.
Bartkiw has also served as an expert academic advisor in labour and employment law review processes concerning employment standards, and collective bargaining models in both the public and private sectors. He was appointed to provide an expert report on the collective bargaining regime to support the recent Changing Workplaces Review, external link labour law reform process in Ontario. Bartkiw is a member of the Labour Law Casebook Group that co-edits a prominent labour and employment law textbook. He is also the director of the Ryerson Centre for Labour Management Relations.
