At Ryerson, an overwhelming majority of our daily interactions with undergraduate and graduate students are positive and characterized by mutually beneficial professor-student relationships. Trying times do occasionally arise, but are generally nothing more than minor disruptions as opposed to difficult situations. However, the rising financial and time constraints on our students sometimes produces unusually distressed, disruptive or threatening behavior, which can produce a negative impact on learning and the classroom environment. This interactive session provides faculty with the guidance, support and the varied resources available to confront such behaviors. You will learn how to recognize these behaviors and where to refer students in distress, how to manage disruptive, disturbing or threatening behavior and what resources on campus are of assistance to you and your students.
