For Faculty

Any Ryerson student with a valid One Card, including undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students, who received permission from the course instructor. 

Please note: For larger classes (Chang School, TRSM or Engineering), the department may have established processes for administering make-up tests/exams. We encourage departments to continue administering their own make-up test/exams for large classes.

 

A make-up test/exam, written without academic accommodation in the Make-up Test Centre, is an opportunity for students who missed a scheduled test/exam to fulfill the requirements of a course. This must be approved by the instructor.

A test/exam written at the time of the class, or as a make-up with academic accommodation, is administered through the Test Centre and will be requested by the student through Clockwork. Instructors will receive specific Academic Accommodation Letters for students registered with Academic Accommodation Support and will approve test/exam requests through the specific Clockwork link sent via email.

 

The student booking request is not completed until the Test Centre receives instructor approval. Instructors can deny any request that has not been approved prior to the student’s submission.

Yes. To schedule this, please initiate a “Multi-Request” within the Make-up System. This feature allows instructors to fill out one page containing all information for the test/exam, including the student numbers of all students who need to write. The system will send an acknowledgement email to each student upon submission.

Please note: Students must acknowledge the request within seven business days or their individual request will be cancelled.

 

No, the Make-up Test Centre can only administer paper and pencil tests/exams.

Yes, instructors can do this by assigning a “Proxy” approver.

Please note: This must be a Ryerson Administrator or TA. Instructors are not allowed to assign another instructor as a proxy. Course listings in the Make-up Test Centre system are pulled via instructors, directly from RAMMS, and cannot be reassigned.

 

In the event that a student misses a scheduled make-up test/exam, a second make-up may be scheduled at the discretion of the instructor. Should the student be a “no-show” on the day of the make-up test/exam without having provided advanced notification, only the instructor can allow the student to rebook. There is a waiting period of seven days to rebook at test.

For Students

The Make-up Test Centre cannot administer tests/exams on a computer; only paper and pencil tests can be written in the Centre.

Invigilators cannot answer content-related questions. Should your instructor provide contact information, the invigilators will call them. In the event the instructor cannot be reached, students will be advised to answer according to their best assumption, and to make a note of the assumption next to their answer. 

Electronic devices of any kind are not allowed. A cell phone on your person could be deemed academic misconduct under PDF fileRyerson Senate Policy 60.

 

Only food that is medically necessary will be permitted, and must be nut free and scent free. Coffee cups are not permitted in the Make-up Test Centre, but students are allowed to bring water in a clear bottle.

Students must inform the Make-up Test Centre at least 24 hours in advance if they are unable to attend. Should a student be a “no-show” on the day of the make-up test/exam, only the instructor can rebook for the student. There is a seven day waiting period to rebook another test. 

According to Ryerson policy 134 and 166, you must contact your Instructor within three working days of missing the test/exam. Your Instructor will advise you whether you need to submit any documentation, and may request a PDF fileCompleted Ryerson Medical Certificate if you will miss or have missed a test or an exam for medical reasons. Please submit a request to write in the Make-up Test Centre once you’ve received approval from your Professor.
