Biography

Maddie considers herself lucky to have grown up in generation Y. It allowed her to grow with the evolution of the digital world, being an early adopter of many digitally driven platforms, all the way from ICQ, to Facebook and Snapchat. Maddie has always been very passionate about marketing, media and especially both digital and social media. After completing both an advanced diploma and a bachelor of commerce, she worked at a small social media marketing agency before moving on to Rogers Media. During her first semester, she had the opportunity to work with Ryerson Futures Incorporated (RFI), the Digital Media Zone’s accelerator program, assisting them with their social media strategy. She has been actively tweeting since early 2010, you can follow her on Twitter at @mjrcrothers.

Why Digital Media?

Immediately after completing her undergraduate degree in commerce, Maddie went on to work at Matchstick, a social media marketing agency located here in Toronto. She was able to expand her knowledge and experience in both social and digital media for major brands on a national level. Gaining so much experience in such a little time, only added to her passion for digital media. After Matchstick, Maddie worked at Rogers Media as the President of Media, the Vice-President of Digital Media as well as the Vice-President of Digital Product Innovation. She had been looking for master's programs that were focused on social or digital media to take her to the next level in the ever-changing and innovative digital world. After finding information on Ryerson’s Masters in Digital Media on Twitter, she knew it was the best place to continue her studies. Maddie knew if she wanted to study digital media, she should do it in one of Toronto’s best digital startup environments.
