Biography

From print to digital...wait, what about both? While in her undergrad program at Ryerson Marijana realized that the answer to "which medium should be used?" was not necessarily print OR digital, but maybe a combination of both. Marijana specialized her degree by taking courses through the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education in Magazine and Website Publishing. This, in turn, provided her with inside knowledge and connections within the magazine industry.

Marijana has always been fascinated by the publishing industry as a whole, however she also fell in love with film production after joining Toronto start-up Set Scouter in October 2013. So who knows where she'll end up. One thing's for sure, it'll be an adventure!

You can follow her on twitter at @m_miric where she has been an active participant since May 2009.

Why Digital Media?

After spending 4 years learning the ins and outs of the print industry, Marijana could see how quickly the world was increasing in digital activity. Undeniably the print industry was decreasing (not dying!) in popularity. Companies were finding more and more ways and reasons to go digital; especially in the publishing world. However, Marijana saw this as an eye-opener. In the biography above it states that Marijana no longer saw the creation of publications as "this or that" but instead a combination. Each medium is geared towards a different audience and given today's technology (not to mention future developments), either medium can complement the other well. Marijana has always loved the idea of mastering her knowledge of digital media and she is more than happy with the fact that she gets to do so in one of the best digital media environments within Toronto.

Research

Major Research Paper: "Affordances of Digital Magazines"

This study examines the affordances of tablet/iPad magazines and how they are utilized by the publisher. Digital platforms allow the publisher to expand past print-only and increase the level of interactivity they have with the consumer. However, most publishers tweak the design and put up a "replica" edition of the print magazine currently on stands.
