Biography:

Naveed (affectionately known as Navi) is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary designer who combines his extensive training in architecture, his knowledge of digital fabrication, and his curiosity of the digital world to create novel, surprising, playful, and unexpected environments that invite users to critically assess the physical world in which they exist.  
He received his Bachelor of Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University, where his studies focused on sustainable design, project management, and the design process. Upon graduating, Navi has remained at Toronto Metropolitan University to manage the operations of the The Creative School FabLab, and also serves as a Technician and Design Mentor for the Design Fabrication Zone. His professional design work has led him to collaborate with architects, interior designers, graphic designers, entrepreneurs, educators, and community activists on a wide-range of projects and installations.

Navi’s academic and professional work has been featured at Nuit Blanche, Bata Shoe Museum, Royal Ontario Museum, Gladstone Hotel Come Up To My Room, Aird Gallery, Paul H. Cocker Gallery, as well as on major media outlets such as CBC, CTV, Azure Magazine, Dezeen, and BlogTO.

Why Digital Media?

As a student of architecture – arguably the most public of the arts – Navi is inherently drawn to the human aspect of design, and the way that human interactions manifest in the physical world. Now, in a world where social media, wearable computing, and augmented and virtual reality are a norm, digital media is changing the way people interact with each other and the built environment. Through the MDM program, Navi hopes to explore the interstitial tension between physical and digital spaces, and gain the skills to better understand how to design for a human-centric digital landscape: Towards a Digital Architecture.
