Biography:

Ever since Eileen was young, she was always curious and felt the need to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Reading was her favourite pastime and she liked to find parallels between various subjects to generate innovative ideas. Initially going into university for forensic science, she changed focus and resulted in studying different aspects of people: their minds and behaviours, physical form and human culture across space and time. During the final year of her undergraduate degree, she became a library ambassador that facilitated creative activities for students and this reignited her passion for technology and digital content creation. After graduation, she pursued a college program that touched on all aspects of multimedia including photography, videography, graphic design, web development, usability and web accessibility. She was also a team lead for three client projects due to her organizational skills and overall commitment to bringing the client’s vision to reality.

After completing her college diploma in Interactive Media Design in 2016, she worked in Ottawa for two years as a web developer at a software company. During this time she became extremely interested in web accessibility and the principles of inclusive design and became an advocate for updating numerous enterprise and government sites to international accessibility standards. Alas, her hometown was calling her name, so she decided to move back to Toronto but not before taking a well-deserved break by travelling to several Asian countries. Eileen always knew that she wanted to continue to pursue higher education, and because of her interdisciplinary background and skills, the Master of Digital Media at Ryerson seems to be the perfect fit. For her master’s research project, she wants to focus on improving the practicality of augmented reality especially in sectors that are slower to adopt this technology.

Her new slogan: Eileen of all trades, Master of Digital Media.
