Dr. Dan McGillivray

Distinguished Visiting Professor, Research & Innovation Office, has a strong focus on energy innovation, entrepreneurship and education. Dan brought more than 30 years of experience to TMU's Centre for Urban Energy having worked as managing director of two centres at the Ontario Centres of Excellence - the Centre for Energy and the Centre for Earth and Environmental Technologies. Here he managed the iCUE Zone, an innovation incubator/accelerator for new energy businesses. Dan was responsible for business development, communications, strategic planning, international partnerships and the commercialization of CUE research. Dan has held several executive positions including: managing director, academic relations, technology transfer partnerships and corporate development, director of business development and technology transfer. He has also worked as an environmental consultant, university professor, physical oceanographer and president and CEO of Environmental Software Consultants Inc. In June 2011, Dan founded Proxima Innovation, a management consulting business offering innovation services and executive coaching to leaders in the energy and environment sectors. Dan received his PhD from the University of Toronto in Earth and Environmental science.
