Elizabeth has been a midwife in Toronto since 1986 with the Midwives Collective of Toronto and Mount Sinai Hospital.  She was a founding member of the Association of Ontario Midwives and the College of Midwives of Ontario.  She was the first Co-Registrar of the College of Midwives of Ontario.  Elizabeth began teaching in the Midwifery Education Program (MEP) in 1996, first at McMaster University and later at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2000.

Elizabeth’s research interests include the history of midwifery, childbirth in popular culture, and the clinical learning and teaching process. Her Master of Arts research focused on oral histories of midwives who practiced prior to legal recognition in late twentieth century Ontario. She was a grant recipient of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Shared Online Course Fund to develop a series of open access online learning modules for midwifery learners and teachers focused on clinical learning available in October 2015.  (PDF file) Elizabeth’s thesis (external link)
