Annual Checklist for Midwifery Students

Keep your education on track by following the checklists below for each year of the Midwifery Education Program.

Welcome to Ryerson! Check out what steps you need to take as a new student in the Midwifery Education Program (MEP).

  1. Return your signed Offer of Admission to the MEP by email to jcabanat@ryerson.ca by June 1. 
  2. Sign up for an academic advising appointment with the program manager. You will receive an invitation to sign up for an appointment during the month of June. Make sure to submit your signed offer to the program prior to this appointment. Once you receive the invitation, you'll be able to sign up and will receive a calendar invitation and a Zoom link.
  3. Review transfer credit information in the PDF filePolicy & Information Handbook. Hold off on submitting your transfer credit applications until after you’ve have completed youran advising appointment with the program manager.
  4. You will receive an orientation package by email in the summer which will include the following three forms. Complete the forms and submit via email to jcabanat@ryerson.ca:
    • Photo Consent Form
    • Student Declaration of Insurance
    • Student Information Form (due in early August, once your Ryerson ID is available)

  1. Submit a complete PDF filePlacement Requirements Record with supporting documentation to the MEP Office in hard copy in one envelope by November 15. Incomplete packages will not be processed and will be returned.
  2. Purchase a headset to attend clinical tutorials. 
  3. Due to the lottery, students in Winter Normal Childbearing (NC) will be enrolled in the course in the first week of December and students in Spring/Summer Normal Childbearing will be enrolled in the first week of April. If you are on OSAP, this may impact you. Make sure to consult the Student Financial Assistance Office with any questions you may have.
  4. Complete the Occupational Health & Safety Awareness Training.

Make sure to keep originals of all of your documents in case they are required during your clinical placement. Completion of the Placement Requirements Record is mandatory to participate in clinical placements. If your practice requirements are incomplete by the deadline, your entry to clinical activities will be delayed.

  1. Attend the web-conference on orientation to third year courses. You will receive an invitation to participate via your Ryerson email (Date TBD due to COVID-19)
  2. Complete and submit the Request for Interprofessional Placements I & II, once you receive it via your Ryerson email (Date TBD due to COVID-19)
  3. Register for ALARM once you receive an email from the MEP with instructions
  4. Submit a complete PDF filePlacement Requirements Record with supporting documentation to martha.sharpe@ryerson.ca by August 15. Incomplete packages will not be processed and will be returned.

  2. Register to take the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam (CMRE), external link (typically, students need to register before mid-March for the May exam)
  3. Get organized to register with the College of Midwives of Ontario, external link, opens in new window.
  4. Apply to graduate
