Inspired research meets sustainable results
A drive to solve reliability issues with sustainable energy has allowed electrical and computer engineering professor Bala Venkatesh to make a real impact on society.
In his quest to provide pollution-free solutions to utilities and other energy companies, Dr. Venkatesh has partnered with industry to test a giant battery system that can store electricity. The ultimate goal is to collect renewable – but unpredictable – energy like wind and solar and use it when we need it.
Dr. Venkatesh works on this research with many graduate students and research fellows who help to model, analyze and optimize large electric power systems. The learning and experience those students gain alongside him at Ryerson’s Centre for Urban Energy directly prepare them for careers in their chosen fields, at companies such as Toronto Hydro.
At Ryerson, we invest deeply in our researchers. We provide them with the support they need to solve relevant and real-world problems that help our environment and our economy, and that also set students on a clear path to success.
Located in Toronto’s downtown core, Ryerson University offers full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate programs, innovative learning opportunities, and a diverse and welcoming campus community.
