The purpose of is to provide research-based information about the importance of maintaining and protecting the many minority languages spoken in homes across Canada.

The goal of is to help parents, teachers, childcare workers and service providers understand the personal, social, linguistic and academic reasons for maintaining and protecting home languages.


Work with immigrant families shows that family languages are too often at risk. This means that as immigrant children learn English, home languages take second place, are forgotten and lost.
