Real Institute Spring 2019 Conference - Theory, Applied: Myths and Realities
- May 10, 2019 - May 11, 2019
- 5:00 PM - 4:30 PM
- The Real Institute, 424 Yonge Street, 2nd Floor

In the fall of 2017, the Ryerson English as an Additional Language (REAL) Institute opened its doors to students from all over the world. The success they achieved in improving their English skills while working with classmates and instructors from a wide array of cultural backgrounds stands as a testament to the power of intercultural communication and the wonderful opportunities for personal growth and collective progress it so meaningfully represents.
With that in mind, the REAL Institute could not be more excited to be hosting our inaugural conference in the spring of 2019, as its Theory, Applied: Myths and Realities thematic focus will bring to life the most cutting-edge theory surrounding English language learning within classrooms that we all know are so much more than simply words on a page.
Benefiting from the expertise and insight of our Keynote Speaker, Patsy Lightbown, and using an array of interactive and collaborative sessional formats to explore fields such as applied linguistics, critical theory, and cultural studies, the goal of our conference will be to bring together a community of individuals driven by the same collective goal: To do whatever we can to provide the best learning environments for every student that comes through our doors in order to help them to open whichever one will come next.
Please note: Friday's registration begins at 5 p.m., followed by the opening reception at 6 p.m. Saturday's conference times are from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. For the full schedule, please visit www.ryerson.ca/realinstitute/2019-conference/schedule/.
