Usha George appointed interim vice-president, research and innovation.

To the Ryerson community,

As you know, Wendy Cukier will be joining Brock University September 1 to take on her role as president. Wendy’s leadership will be missed at Ryerson, and I want to express once again our appreciation for all that she has done for the university. I know many of you attended her farewell party last week which was a great send off to mark her 30-year career at Ryerson. Wendy will be on vacation from July 11 to August 31.

I am pleased to let you know that Usha George will be stepping into the role of acting vice-president, research and innovation, effective July 11. Usha will then serve as interim VPRI beginning September 1 until the position has been filled permanently.

I want to thank Usha for taking on this important responsibility immediately after completing her second term as dean of the Faculty of Community Services. She is an experienced and collaborative leader, and a distinguished scholar and researcher with a focus in the areas of newcomer settlement and integration, diversity and organizational change. As both a principal and co-investigator, she has received more than $5 million in peer-reviewed research grants and close to $8 million in sponsored research contracts. She has written more than 105 peer-reviewed publications and research reports.

Please join me in wishing both Usha and Wendy well in their upcoming roles.

Mohamed Lachemi
President and Vice-Chancellor
