Earning a university degree takes hard work, dedication and sacrifice - and this year, for many, that’s particularly true. The graduates of 2020 have shown resilience in unprecedented ways - and on Nov. 17, all members of the Ryerson community are invited to celebrate fall 2020 grads in a virtual graduation celebration.

“Despite the challenges of this past year, it is so important to honour the incredible achievements of our graduates. No matter where you are in the world, we invite you to join us in celebrating their success,” said Kim McDonald, manager, ceremonials office, who says the fall 2020 ceremony will recognize approximately 2,100 graduating students.

Special address

The ceremony will be hosted by President Mohamed Lachemi and feature a special address from Mohamad Fakih, 2019 Ryerson honorary doctorate recipient and founder and CEO of Paramount Fine Foods.

Fakih is a well-known businessperson, community leader and philanthropist. Among his charitable efforts, he has hired more than 150 Syrian refugees, paid for the funerals of the 2017 Quebec mosque shooting victims, and raised money to support families who lost loved ones in the Tehran plane crash.

The Nov. 17 event will be presented by NexTech AR Solutions (external link) , a company founded by Ryerson 2019 Alumni Achievement Award winner Paul Duffy.

As for an eventual in-person convocation, McDonald says Ryerson continues to prioritize the health and safety of all community members and is closely following advice from government public health agencies. Any updates will be available online.
