On April 23, the School of Medicine planning committee will kick off consultations for the Ryerson community to learn more about, and contribute to, the School of Medicine proposal.

Following the announcement that Ryerson has received a provincially funded grant to develop a proposal for a School of Medicine, the university is embarking on the first step of the consultation process. These consultations will inform the community of the planning process and develop a shared vision for the future of health care education and delivery in our communities.

Community consultations will begin with a webinar (external link)  Community Presentation on Friday, April 23 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Led by president and vice-chancellor, Mohamed Lachemi, the webinar is for the entire Ryerson community to learn more about the vision for the proposed School of Medicine. Vice-President, Research and Innovation (VPRI) Steven Liss, who is Chair of the School of Medicine planning committee, will also share more information about the planning process and timelines. Community members are invited to  (google form) submit questions (external link)  about the School of Medicine proposal in advance, by Wednesday, April 21 at 12:00 p.m. The webinar will be recorded and posted online for later viewing.

Share thoughts and participate

Community consultation and engagement will be a cornerstone to the School of Medicine proposal. There will be several ways for the Ryerson community to learn about and contribute to its development. The consultations undertaken this spring are the first of many that will occur as proposal development and planning progresses.

For this first phase, online engagement will open April 26 and run until June 18. During this time, community members will be able to share their perspectives and shape the planning process. Responses will be used by the School of Medicine Planning Committee to inform future targeted community consultations, including with the Brampton community, and for planning purposes. Further information about online engagement will be available on the School of Medicine website in the coming days.

Additionally, the VPRI will hold weekly one-hour sessions, via Zoom, from May 6 to June 14 for the broader Ryerson community to be engaged in the consultation process. Six community engagement sessions will be held over the course of the Spring.
