Art Exhibit

Artwork by Maryellen Boyes

Birth and its Meanings showcases creative works, in a variety of media, by midwives, midwifery students and local artists that explore issues relating to pregnancy, birth, parenthood, infant-feeding, loss and midwifery.

Birth and its Meanings explores the ways in which reproductive experiences are taken up in the arena of cultural production. The artists pose questions, unsettle assumptions and generate broad imaginative spaces for thinking about diverse experiences of pregnancy, birth and parenthood. The creative works on display challenge authoritative representations in a manner that seeks to reveal the diversity and complexity of some of life’s most intimate and profound experiences.
