Lauren Cook is a Toronto based artist. She is the Artistic Director of Alias Dance Project, part-time instructor of Dance at Ryerson University and owner of The Cornerstone Studio.
Cook has been teaching students of all ages in different styles across Canada since 2001. She is an artistic mentor and instructor for TDSB Creates, a guest choreographer for pre-professional training programs across the country, and a personal trainer at The Cornerstone Studio. Her work with adult non dancers, primarily focuses on strength conditioning and her work with professional artists focuses on power and speed training through the lens of contemporary dance, drawing influences from different street art and martial art forms. She is driven by the belief that if you can get humans to connect too and have a deeper understanding of their own body, they will become more curious, more present and kinder, softer people.
With Alias, Lauren has produced over 10 full length productions, 4 annual international summer dance intensives, and worked creatively with over 50 cross-disciplinary artists. Her interests currently lie heavily in site specific work and work that engages broad communities.
Cook is currently commissioned to create a work for the students of George Brown and is working towards creating a site specific quartet in Toronto's East End.
