Biography

Lourdes Hernandez was born in Havana, Cuba and trained at the Cuban National Ballet School where she completed her studies and later joined the Ballet Nacional de Cuba under the direction of Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, where she performed for fifteen years and toured extensively through Europe and South America. Mrs. Hernandez’s repertoire includes Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty among others. She was a founding member of the revitalizing dance movement in Cuba known as “La Joven Guardia” (The Young Guard) directed by worldly renowned Laura Alonso, where Lourdes performed principal roles in La Fille Mal Gardee, Les Sylphides, Le Grand Pas de Quatre and The Dying Swan.

Lourdes moved to Toronto, Canada in 1997 and joined the Ontario Ballet during their Nutcracker 1997-1998 tour across Ontario. She later became fully Certified Pilates Instructor at the prestigious Stott Pilates Studio and has been teaching in various prominent Pilates studios and Private Clubs in Toronto. She currently is a Master Teacher and member of the Board of the Teacher Training Program at Mindful Movement Studio in Yorkville, Toronto. She also teaches Ballet for adults at Dance-Tec since 2004 and is a Guest Teacher at the Miami Dance Project Inc. and the ProBallet School, both in Miami, Florida.
Lourdes joined Toronto Metropolitan University in the fall of 2013 and has been teaching Ballet for 1st and 2nd year students to this date.

In addition to her passion for teaching ballet to our new generation of dancers, Lourdes also has integrated her expertise in Pilates to her teaching method to provide our dancers with yet another effective tool to further contribute to and improve their training.
