Alyssa Martin is a choreographer and director working and playing in Tkaronto.  She creates absurdist dance theatre with a mischievous, tongue-in-cheek energy. Alyssa founded her creative home, Rock Bottom Movement, in 2012, and the group has since been graciously recognized with multiple Dora Mavor Moore Awards and the Canadian Stage Award for Direction. Alongside her collaborators, she has created new work in residence at The Banff Centre, Canadian Stage, Toronto Dance Theatre, The Stratford Festival Lab and The National Ballet of Canada.

In addition to her work with Rock Bottom, Alyssa creates new work for other dance companies, independent artists, post-secondary students and collaborates in the theatre, film, musical theatre and opera realms. She recently created Bin Chicken a full length commission for Toronto Dance Theatre and choreographed I Am William at The Stratford Festival. Her film work has been featured at the Portland Film Festival, National Arts Centre and dance: made in canada. She was an Emerging Director in residence at Canadian Stage and is currently in residence at Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre and X University.

As an educator and guest artist she has taught at X University’s Theatre Department, George Brown College’s Dance Program, Laurier University’s Opera Program, Queen's University Philosophy Program, York University’s Dance Program, The Stratford Festival’s Teaching Shakespeare Program as well as at numerous elementary schools, highschools, post-secondary trainings and informal community workshops. She holds her BFA Honours in Performance Dance from Ryerson University. In all her work, she hopes to offer unbridled romps through cheeky explosions of our consciousness while deeply considering the audiences, communities and collaborators who come to play.
