Project: Lighting Designer, Dances 2019
Simon Rossiter is a Toronto-based lighting designer who occasionally designs scenery.
Original designs for dance include Against Nature; Les Paradis Perdus; #lovesexbrahms; Elvis & the Man in Black; From the House of Mirth (Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie), Marienbad; Singular Bodies; New York/Toronto; Brussels/Toronto; Eleven Accords; Rivers (Toronto Dance Theatre), the edge of now; what it’s like (adelheid dance projects); with a trace (firstthingsfirst); From There to Here (National Arts Centre); The Dreamers Ever Leave You (National Ballet of Canada). He has designed dance works for the National Ballet School, the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, and Ryerson University. Simon is the lighting director of Fall for Dance North, presented annually at Toronto’s Sony Centre.
Theatre designs include Frankly, Sinatra; The Dead; The Thirst of Hearts (Soulpepper Theatre Company); For Life; The Romeo Initiative; In Piazza San Domenico (Sudbury Theatre Centre); Les Précieuses Ridicules; Les Zinspirés; Le Fa Le Do; Les Fourberies de Scapin (théâtre français de Toronto); Frankenstein (Theatre New Brunswick); We Three; Byhalia, MS; pool (no water); Pieces (Cue 6); Into the Woods; Robin Hood; Macbeth (Hart House); The Idiot; The Clowns (Humber College). Simon is the lighting director of the Next Stage Theatre Festival, presented annually by the Toronto Fringe.
Simon’s designs have received two Dora Mavor Moore Awards from five nominations, and he has twice been nominated for the Ontario Arts Council’s prestigious Pauline McGibbon Award. Simon is a member of the Associated Designers of Canada.
