The Association for Theatre in Higher Education is the largest theatre studies association in North America. Their Excellence in Editing Award honors both individual achievements in editing and sustained achievement in editing over extended periods of time. These awards are given in rotation. Professor Natalie Alvarez is part of the team being recognized this year.

Co-editors Natalie Alvarez, Claudette Lauzon (SFU), and Keren Zaiontz (Queen's),  have been awarded for their book Sustainable Tools for Precarious Times: Performance Actions in the Americas (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). The book charts the changing frontiers of art-activism with a focus on emergent tactics and strategies over the past decade that allow art-activists to sustain the energy and press of political resistance in the face of human rights emergencies across the Americas.
