Music
The music section of the Department of Philosophy offers a wide range of courses that include the study of classical European music, popular music, the architecture of music, and traditional world music. These courses reach beyond basic music vocabulary to include the analysis of important repertoire as well as the historical, cultural, social and political contexts for music.

Professor Gillian Turnbull (external link, opens in new window) released her new book, entitled Sonic Booms: Making Music in an Oil Town (external link, opens in new window) (Eternal Cavalier Press).
Professor Sean Bellaviti won a SSHRC Insight Grant (external link) for his project entitled "Salsa North of the 40° Parallel: A Social History of Latin American and Caribbean Popular Music in Toronto."
Professor Peter Johnston was awarded two grants from the the Ontario Arts Council (external link, opens in new window) : a composing grant and a concept-to-realization grant.
Professor Gillian Turnbull won three grants in 2018-2019: a Marian Hebb Research Grant (external link, opens in new window) from the Access Copyright Foundation; a Research and Creation Grant (external link, opens in new window) from the Canada Council for the Arts; and a Chalmers Professional Development Grant (external link, opens in new window) from the Ontario Arts Council.
