Flexible Work Location Safety Guidelines

Employees should consider these guidelines to establish safe and healthy working conditions at their Flexible Work Location. Employees are responsible for assessing their Flexible Work Location and for taking corrective steps, in consultation with their leader, the Environmental Health & Safety Office, or Workplace Wellbeing Services, where appropriate.

Emergency Procedures 

  • Emergency contact numbers are readily available. 
  • Emergency contact information updated in eHR. 
  • Emergency exit routes are clear. 
  • First aid supplies are available. 
  • Smoke detector is fully functioning. Test and change batteries every six months. 
  • Carbon monoxide detector is fully functioning. Test and change batteries every six months. 
  • Fire extinguisher is fully functioning and easily accessible. 
  • Report any concerns related to personal safety or security to your leader or HR.

Electrical

  • Electrical outlets are not overloaded and plates are in good condition.
  • Power bars and surge protectors plugged directly into wall receptacles (not into each other).
  • Power cords are in good condition, used safely and neatly secured to avoid a slip/trip hazard.

General housekeeping 

  • Floors are free of trip, slip and fall hazards.
  • Stairs are clear and unobstructed and handrail installed and in good condition.
  • Outside landings and walkways are clear.
