Statement on the tragic incident at Yonge and Finch

April 24, 2018

On behalf of the entire Ryerson community - students, staff, faculty and alumni - I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to all of those affected by the terrible incident at Yonge and Finch.

We were extremely saddened to learn that one of our TRSM alumni, Anne Marie D'Amico, was a victim of yesterday's tragedy. Our thoughts are with Anne Marie’s family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.

We have also learned that a second alumna and a Ryerson contract lecturer were also injured. They are in our thoughts and we wish them well as they recover.

As an institution committed to diversity, inclusion and city building, we understand that something of this nature is difficult and upsetting and that people may need to gather or seek support. The following counselling resources are available to those in our community who may need them:

At difficult times like these, I encourage all Ryerson community members to make use of the resources that the university provides, to turn to one another for comfort and support, and to draw on the immeasurable strength of our city.
