Frequently Asked Questions - Direct Entry Admission

It is the responsibility of all applicants to be aware of the published admission requirements and application procedures for admission consideration to Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)'s Direct Entry Business Management program.

The following are Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and associated answers for the Direct Entry Business Management Program:

All applicants must provide official academic transcripts, including promotion/graduation status, for all post-secondary studies attended (in or outside of Canada, and regardless of academic performance and year(s) of attendance). Applicants are required to outline (on their application) all of their academic and non-academic activities since they last attended secondary school (in or outside of Canada). Please be advised that this information is mandatory and failure to provide it will cause a delay in the processing of an application.

No. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 / 70% / B are not eligible for admission to the Direct Entry Business Management program. This applies both to the full-time and part-time programs. Please note: A higher GPA may be required, subject to competition.

If you have completed a three year Business Administration Diploma program from a province or territory outside of Ontario, or from another country, your application and credentials will be assessed on an individual basis.

Yes. The following three year Advanced Diplomas will not be considered for admission to the Direct Entry Business Management program at TMU:

  • Banking and Wealth Management
  • Business Administration Retail Management
  • Hospitality and Tourism Management
  • Music Business Management
  • Sport Management

Please note: Acceptable Business Administration Advanced Diplomas are determined at TMU's sole discretion. Programs that lack sufficient academic preparation, especially in quantitative analysis, will not be accepted for Direct Entry admission. For further details contact ServiceHub at (416) 979-5036.

No. Applicants are not required to fulfil any requirements from the secondary school level and an academic transcript from secondary school is not required.

TMU’s Mature student guidelines do not apply to the Direct Entry Business Management program. All applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements, including completion of an acceptable three year Advanced Diploma program in Business Administration with a GPA of 3.0 / 70% / B or higher.

Yes. Once you have completed two semesters within the part-time program and achieve a clear academic standing, you are eligible to apply to transfer to the full-time program.

No. Part-time students may enrol in three courses only per semester. This policy is enforced for all terms (fall, winter and spring/summer).

No. Admission is granted to the best qualified candidates. TMU does not penalize an applicants based on which option they have applied to. In fact, we encourage applicants to apply to both the full-time and part-time options to improve their chances of admission.

Some courses are offered on-line but the majority of courses require in-class attendance. Please note: The Entrepreneurship and Real Estate Management majors do not offer regular evening or on-line courses. Most courses are only offered during the day.

Generally we recommend that applicants gain admission to the degree program in the fall prior to completing courses in the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. Performance in any/all courses, completed in the Chang School or at other post-secondary institutions, will be considered in our assessment of an application.

At this time, TMU does not offer a Direct Entry stream for Accounting/Finance. To be considered for admission to the Accounting & Finance program please review the admission requirements. Performance in your three year Advanced Diploma program in Business Administration will be considered, along with results in the three program specific requirements from secondary school:

  • English/Anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
  • Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
  • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
  • A minimum grade of 75% is required in the subject prerequisites and as an overall average.

Please note: Admission to the program is to first year only, and the program will not grant transfer credits for core accounting and finance courses. The program may consider transfer credits in subjects such as Marketing, Human Resources, Economics, etc.
