Is It for You?

Civil engineers solve environmental and societal problems and help make communities safer. You’ll learn to conceive, design, plan and build essential, sustainable infrastructures, including power and water supply structures and waste treatment facilities, high and low rise buildings, airports, roads and dams. Choose from specializations in Structural, Transportation or Environmental Engineering, along with an optional paid co-operative internship and an optional specialization in Management Sciences to enhance your degree. Required grade ranges may fluctuate from year to year (up or down) as a result of competition. Applicants not educated in Ontario may present the equivalent of the Ontario requirements. Ryerson reserves the right to determine equivalency at its sole discretion.

Domestic Fees Range: $10,153 - $11,163
International Fees Range: $28,882 - $36,610

Academic Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program specific requirements.

Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher pre-requisite grades and/or higher overall averages:

  • English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
  • Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
  • Physics (SPH4U)
  • Chemistry (SCH4U)
  • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
  • Note: The grades required in the subject prerequisites (normally 70%) will be determined subject to competition.

After Graduation

Advance practices and solve problems in environmental, geomatics and geotechnical engineering projects. Work on structural and transportation engineering projects, with engineering technology and consulting companies, construction and mining industries, or municipality and government agencies. You may work as a consulting civil engineering, design engineer, nuclear engineer, structural engineer or water engineer. Or, pursue graduate studies (MEng, MASc, PhD) in civil engineering.
