Applications are now being accepted for the following four 2022/2023 Psychology Undergraduate Program awards:

  • The William Glassman Prize in Psychology
  • *NEW* Jackman Psychology Undergraduate Excellence Award 
  • *NEW* Jackman Psychology Undergraduate Award for Black and Indigenous Students 
  • *NEW* Michelle M. Dionne Varsity Athletics Psychology Award 

You can apply for these awards by accessing your account in AwardSpring (external link)  and searching on the award name (if you do not already have an account you will need to create one). For more information, please review the award details provided below and in AwardSpring. These awards will be open until February 28th at 11:59pm.

Background and Purpose

The William Glassman Prize in Psychology was donated by Professor Emeritus William Glassman of the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University. Each year, this prize will be awarded at the end of the academic year to one full-time 3rd year undergraduate Psychology student who meets the criteria and guidelines. Students will typically apply for this award at or near the completion of their third year of study. This award is about recognizing those who work to support their community and community service.

 

Number and Amount of Awards

One prize for a minimum of $500.

 

Eligibility Conditions

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

• Be enrolled in the Psychology program at TMU.

• Be an undergraduate student entering their fourth year of study.

• Full-time (80% or more of a full course load or at least 4 billing units), OR Full-time (permanent disability: 40% or more of a full course load).

• Meet a minimum CGPA of 3.0.

• Demonstrate an active involvement in community service.

• Additional requirements:

◦ Applicants must submit a cover letter (1-2 pages)

◦ Applicants must submit a resume

◦ Applicants must submit two letters of support; one from a faculty member and one from a volunteer organization

Background and Purpose

To support undergraduate students in Psychology who demonstrate both academic accomplishments and an interest in using psychology for the pursuit of positive change in the world. Jackman Scholars will be able to include this award on their resume or curriculum vitae. This award is aimed at students who are planning to seek advanced graduate training in psychology or a related field.

 

Number and Amount of Awards

One award of $2,000.00.

 

Eligibility Conditions

To be eligible for this award, students must:

• Be enrolled in the Psychology program at TMU

• Be an undergraduate student entering their third, fourth, or final year of study

• Be enrolled in full time studies (80% or more of a full course load or at least 4 billing units), OR full-time (permanent disability: 40% or more of a full course load).

• Meet a minimum CGPA of 3.00

• Additional Requirements

◦ Applicants must have applied to graduate school or be planning to apply to graduate school within the next 18 months.

◦ Applicants must provide the names of the graduate school(s) and program(s) to which you have applied or to apply.

◦ Applicants must provide a statement (200-500 words) describing their plans to apply for graduate school, as well as the ways their graduate training will allow them to pursue positive change in the world.

To support undergraduate students of Psychology who demonstrate both academic accomplishments and an interest in using psychology for the pursuit of positive change in the world. Jackman Scholars will be able to include this award on their resume or curriculum vitae. This award is for students who self-identify as Black or Indigenous.

 

Number and Amount of Awards

One award of $2,000.00.

 

Eligibility Conditions

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

• Be enrolled in the Psychology program at TMU.

• Be an undergraduate student entering their second, third, or fourth year of study.

• Full-time (80% or more of a full course load or at least 4 billing units), OR Full-time (permanent disability: 40% or more of a full course load).

• Meet a minimum CGPA of 3.0.

• Self-identify as an Aboriginal person in Canada (including First Nations [status or non-status], Metis, and Inuit), OR Black (including those who identify as Afro-Caribbean, African-Canadian, or African-American).

• Additional Requirements

◦ Applicants must provide a statement (200-500 words) describing the ways that this award will help you in your academic and professional journey, and how you will use your training and experience to pursue positive change in the world.

Background and Purpose

Dr. Michelle M. Dionne served as Chair of Psychology from 2016 until 2022. This award celebrates Dr. Dionne’s outstanding contribution as an academic leader, her commitment to equity and social justice, and her lifelong passion for athletics.

 

Number and Amount of Awards

One award of $1,000.00.

 

Eligibility Conditions

To be eligible for this award, students must:

• Be enrolled in the Psychology BA program at TMU

• Be enrolled in any year of study

• Be enrolled in full-time studies (80% or more of a full course load or at least 4 billing units), OR Full-time (permanent disability: 40% or more of a full course load).

• Have a CGPA of at least 3.3 or higher

• Be on a Toronto Metropolitan University Athletics varsity team

• Additional Requirements

◦ Applicants must submit an application letter (250-500 words) outlining their past accomplishments and future goals in academics, athletics and leadership.
