The Dean's Service Award recognizes exceptional or distinguished service to a Department, School, Faculty and/or the University.

Award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition and a monetary award of $2,000 as a one-time payment (subject to applicable deductions).

Alagan Anpalagan

Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science

Dr. Anpalagan is a Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering. Since joining Ryerson in 2001, he has held various administrative positions in the Departmental undergraduate and graduate programs, served in numerous committees at the Faculty and Departmental level. In addition, he served in international conference technical program committees, editorial boards and review panels. He was recognized for his outstanding and sustained service to engineering profession and education with IEEE Canada J.M. Ham Outstanding Engineering Educator Award, Ryerson YSGS Outstanding Contribution to Graduate Education Award, and IEEE M.B. Broughton Central Canada Service Award.

Farhad Ein-Mozaffari

Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science

Farhad Ein-Mozaffari's services to the Chem. Eng. Department, FEAS, Ryerson University, and engineering profession have been exceptional. He has been a member of DHC, DEC, MEIE CLAC, GPC Scholarship, FEAS Award, FPC, Esch Award, MEIE Curriculum, MEIE Admission & Scholarship Committees. He was the technical program co-chair of the XXIX Interamerican Congress of Chemical Engineering and 68th CSChE Conference. He has been a member of the Technical and Scientific Committees of numerous international conferences. Ein-Mozaffari has been the editor, guest editor, and member of the editorial board of many journals including the prestigious journal of Chemical Engineering Research and Design.

K. Wayne Forsythe

Department of Geography & Environmental Studies, Faculty of Arts

Dr. Wayne Forsythe is a three-time President of the Canadian Association of Geographers - Ontario Division (CAGONT). He was a member of two important departmental committees including Hiring and Evaluation Committees. He served as Department Council Chair and was the department representative at the Ontario Association of Geographic and Environmental Educators (OAGEE) conference. He is also on the program committee for two international conferences. He was recently recognized by the Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG) with the 2019 Award for Service to the Profession of Geography recognizing exceptional service to the association, its members and affiliates.

Konstantinos Georgiou

Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science

Dr. Georgiou deserves the Dean's SRC Activity Award for his contributions in his research expertise, and his training record of HQPs. Dr. Georgiou is a well-recognized scholar in Theoretical Computer Science with more than 60 publications in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals, 10 of which were published in 2019. Only while at Ryerson University, since 2015, he has supervised more than 20 students in various research programs. 4 of his MSc students graduated in 2019. In his career, he has secured $240k in research funding, while he is also prolific in contributing to various SRC activities promoting academic excellence.

Martin Habekost

School of Graphic Communications Management, Faculty of Communication and Design

Prof Martin Habekost is a dedicated Professor who demonstrates exceptional services to the School of Graphic Communications Management. His contribution to the RyeTAGA student group lead to winning a prestigious international award multiple times. He also promoted the international exchange program to 2nd year students, which includes either a 2-week intensive course or a complete semester at one of the school's international partners. He gives a tremendous amount of his time to show his support to the School and the students. He is involved in many committees and his contributions set the highest standards of selfless service and school involvement.

Juan Antonio Hernandez

School of Retail Management, Ted Rogers School of Management

Dr. Hernandez is a full professor at TRSM, cross-appointed with Retail and Real Estate. He is also the Director and Eaton Chair in Retailing at the Centre for the Study of Commercial Activity. Beyond his role as the director of a research institute, he has consistently contributed to the two departments that he is affiliated with, as well as, to the faculty (TRSM), the university, other programs, and external organizations. In the past two years alone, he has been a member or has chaired 29 committees at Ryerson, a list that includes hiring, evaluation, selection, graduate program, policy, among others.

Klaas Kraay

Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts

Dr. Kraay's contributions to the Department of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, the profession of Philosophy, and his social community have been truly impressive. He has served on most of the committees at the Department level. He has done his part on University committees serving on the Policy 60 Procedures Subcommittee and the Senate Appeals Committee. Dr. Kraay has considerable professional service as a reviewer for many journals, several presses, and granting agencies, and his community service ranges from serving as the head of a Refugee Team settling families in Toronto to a driver and delivery person for Meals-on-Wheels.

Richard Meldrum

School of Occupational and Public Health, Faculty of Community Services

Richard Meldrum has been at Ryerson University for nearly ten years. In that time, his level of service has been exceptional, and has included a significant contribution to academic integrity through his work with the Academic Integrity Council and the Designated Decision Makers Council, as well as his development, implementation and chairing of a Departmental Research Ethics Board for undergraduate research projects. He participates in a number of other committees at the departmental, faculty and university levels.

Farid Shirazi

Information and Technology Management, Ted Rogers School of Management

Dr. Farid Shirazi was involved in many volunteer services at ITM, TRSM and Ryerson levels. Many of them were extremely labor-intensive. He always went extra mile to help our students, faculty and staff on a day-to-day basis. He. He was our faculty lead for preparing ITM Periodic Program Review (PPR), which was approved in June 2018 and resulted in developing and updating many courses. Farid served as a member of ITM hiring and evaluation committees (DHC and DEC) during the last six years. He was also an active member of TRSM GPC, UCC and PhD committee in Environmental Science Program.

Haomiao Yu

Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts

Since joining Ryerson in 2010, Dr. Yu has selflessly devoted his time to diligently service his department, Faculty and the university community. Among his many contributions, he has managed to secure new and sustainable external funding for our graduate programs. Under his astute leadership, our MA students are thriving while our Ph.D. graduates begun launching respectable academic careers. In his role as CE Coordinator, Dr. Yu led the effort of redesigning the marketing material for our programs and creating two brand new certificates. Despite of never shying away from service, he has also managed to maintain a stellar research record.
