Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership Recipients

The Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership recognizes up to two individuals who have advanced the mission of Toronto Metropolitan University through outstanding academic leadership and who have contributed significantly to the enhancement of academic life at TMU and beyond. It may be awarded for service at the Departmental, Faculty, or University level, enhanced by service to the community and profession, where appropriate.

Award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition and a monetary award of $3,000 as a one-time payment (subject to applicable deductions)

Maher El-Masri

Faculty of Community Services

Dr. El Masri has been providing leadership to the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing during extraordinary times, punctuated by a global pandemic that highlighted issues of health care gaps in Ontario, including the shortage of nurses. In this context, Dr. El Masri has demonstrated incredible collegiality, professionalism, expertise, and EDI-focused commitments to support Canada's largest Nursing School by advocating for and organizing a diverse faculty and staff group, leading multiple partnership and regulatory tables, and taking charge of reasonable and sound approaches to managing the enormous pressure to graduate more nurses.

Dana Thomas

Library

Dana Thomas demonstrates the highest standards of excellence as an academic leader. She is guided by an unwavering integrity and conviction to fairness and equity. She leads with compassion and professionalism, instilling confidence and respect. As ACL as well as Interim CL she has modeled sustained commitment to positive leadership through times of change, including critical pandemic leadership, and exciting library expansion initiatives. She approaches work with strategic insight, thoughtfulness, and bold creativity focussed on the possible, and the best outcome for the University, the TMU Libraries, and our shared goals of excellence in teaching, learning, SRC.
