Can a student use VSB to search for classes taught by a specific instructor?
Yes. In the 'Select Course' field a student is able to select courses taught by a specific instructor by entering the instructors First Name and Last Name.

When a student adds courses to VSB and tries to view the potential schedules, there are no results. How can this be possible?
This may be possible if there is a time conflict between the courses the student added.

A student has only one elective this term – the rest of their program is already planned out for them. Would they still want to use VSB?
Even if a student has only a single course to choose, VSB may offer them multiple weekly class schedules to help guide their decision on which class to take.

If a student chooses 'Add to Cart' in VSB, will that reserve a seat for them in those classes?
Selecting 'Add to Cart' in VSB will not reserve a seat in any of the classes, but will only add the classes to their shopping cart for them to enrol at a later time.

Students are strongly encouraged to complete their enrolments as soon as possible, as enrolment into classes is on a first-come, first-served basis and a class that was available when they were creating their schedule in VSB might be full by the time they are ready to enrol.

Can a student search for a class during a time that they already have a class enrolled?
Yes. Unpin the enrolled class and search for the desired course. The results section will display alternative schedule options.

What if VSB generated too many schedule results?
If you come up with too many schedule possibilities while selecting courses, we recommend reducing the number of enabled classes or pin some classes before adding more courses.

How can I filter the schedule results?
To narrow down the results based on your preferences, there are filters at the top right corner of the VSB Results section. There are options to filter by full classes, online classes and on-campus classes.

How can I sort the schedule results?
To organize your generated results, there are sort preferences at the top right corner of the VSB Results section.

The sort preference options are as follows:

  • None
  • Most days off
  • Morning classes
  • Mid-day classes
  • Evening classes
  • Time off campus
  • Most on-campus

If a sort preference is selected, it may change the sequence of Generated Results shown, to display the preference at the beginning of the list.

Can VSB be used for course intentions?
The VSB is a scheduling tool and cannot be used for Course intention selections because Course Intentions are placeholders used for planning purposes and do not yet have scheduled date or time.

How does a student block off time slots in their schedule?
To block off time slots, undergraduate students may click and drag the times that they would like to block from their class schedule. The time slot will become grey to show they are busy.

How does a student remove the blocked-off time slots from their schedule?
To remove the blocked off time slot, they may simply click on the grey area for the time slot that they no longer want to block. The blocked off time slot will be removed to show they are available.

Why is a student still getting results that schedule classes during their blocked-off time?
After time slots have been blocked, VSB reorders the schedule options to display the options that work best with the students’ time constraints at the beginning of the list.

All possible schedule options will continue to display to ensure the student has all the information available to them in order to make an informed decision.

What does it mean to pin a class?
When you find a section of a class that you want to keep you can click it to pin it down. The list will include only the schedule options with your pins.

How do I remove a pin?
Clicking on a class again removes the pin. The list will then repopulate with updated schedule options.

What does it mean when a class is unpinned?
When a class is unpinned, this may provide more possible schedule results to display searched classes during the day and time of the unpinned class.

Can students save the schedules generated by VSB so that they can refer to them later?
Yes, VSB has an 'Add to Favorites' function that students can use to save their favourite schedules.

Is there a maximum number of favourite schedules a student may create?
Students may save a maximum of 9 favourite schedules.

Can students customize the name of their favourite schedules?
Yes, to customize the name of your favourite schedule click on the pencil icon and type in the text field.

If a student saves a class schedule in VSB using 'Add to Favourites', will that reserve a seat for them in those classes?
Saving a favourite class schedule in VSB will not reserve a seat in any of the classes. ‘Add to Favourites’ allows students to refer back to their favourite class schedules and check the availability of those classes without having to start from scratch. Students are strongly encouraged to complete their enrolments as soon as possible, as enrolment into classes is on a first-come, first-served basis and a class that was available when they were creating their schedule in VSB might be full by the time they are ready to enrol.
