Letters and Verification Requests

Ryerson is able to confirm information found on applicant and student records through our letter request and verification services. These letters and services can satisfy the requirement of third parties seeking information about your enrolment and status at Ryerson, such as banks and financial institutions, academic institutions, professional bodies and employers.

A number of letters and verification services are available:

Applicants and New Students

Verification of Enrolment Letter, New Students

Allows you to access RESP funds by confirming enrolment for the upcoming academic year. Starting Monday, June 1, 2020 you can apply for your letter once you have accepted your Offer of Admission. Your Verification of Enrolment letter will be emailed to you after you have satisfied the conditions stated on your Offer letter. You can then forward the letter onto your financial institution. Students admitted for fall 2020 must request their letter by Friday, July 24, 2020.

Offer of Admission

Confirms your acceptance into an undergraduate degree program at Ryerson for a specific term, and confirms the basis of admission and conditions of your offer.

International Applicants and Students

Status Letter for International Students

Provides a variety of information specific to international students’ varying administrative and immigration needs. Note: International students should not request the Proof of Enrolment letter.

Letter of Acceptance for International Students (LAIS)

Required for international applicants requesting a study permit for Canada, and is found on the last page of international applicants Offer of Admission letter.

Current Students

Proof of Enrolment Letter

Verifies enrolment in a certificate or undergraduate program, and enrolment status for up to two terms based on course enrolments and intentions on RAMSS. Used to confirm enrolment with RESP companies. Not required to confirm enrolment for OSAP.

Confirmation of Enrolment Form

Currently due to COVID-19, completed CPP forms must be mailed to the ServiceHub along with a Service Canada envelope with prepaid postage. Forms will be completed and then mailed to Service Canada on your behalf.

Verifies your enrolment and additional information as outlined on the form. Most often requires the signature or stamp of the Registrar. RESP forms will not be completed, and Confirmation of Enrolment Letters should be requested instead.

  • Charge: Free for Canada Pension Plan (CPP) form / $20 all other forms
     

Jury Duty Letter

Confirms your enrolment at Ryerson so that you may request exemption from Jury Duty.  A copy of your court summons is required for your letter to be released. You will receive an email requesting this after you make your request on RAMSS.

Transcript

Due to COVID-19, all completed transcript requests are being emailed in PDF format, regardless of the delivery option selected. Do not request additional copies or the fax delivery option to avoid additional charges. Confirm with the intended recipient that they will accept a pdf of your official transcript before placing an order.

A transcript is a complete record of your enrolment at Ryerson University including all undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education courses and grades, as well as credits granted towards your program. Official and unofficial transcripts are available.

Graduates and Former Students

Confirmation of Graduation Status Letter

Verifies that you have officially graduated from Ryerson, and includes your year of graduation, degree/diploma/certificate and program. Graduation status can also be confirmed via the online Degree Verification Service (see below). If you have not yet officially graduated, request the Eligibility to Graduate Letter.

Certified Photocopy of Award Document

Bring your original graduation award document and a photocopy to the ServiceHub, and the Ryerson seal will be added to the photocopy confirming its authenticity.

Currently unavailable due to the closure of the ServiceHub's in-person services.

Degree Verification

The Degree Verification Service is an online service which confirms whether or not a degree (undergraduate or graduate) and/or a certificate has been received from Ryerson University. It will also specify the type of degree or certificate and the year in which it was received.

Eligibility to Graduate Letter 

Verifies that you have met all of your graduation requirements for your program although you have not yet officially graduated. You must be in your final year/semester of study, have applied/will be applying to graduate. Graduate students should contact their program department for details, and request using the Third Party Letter Request Form found under the Alternative Letter Request tab on this page.

Proof of Enrolment Letter

Verifies the terms and dates in which you were previously enrolled at Ryerson.

QECO Letter (Qualification Evaluation Council of Ontario)

Letter that is used to verify the academic credentials for Ontario teachers.

Transcript

Transfer Credit Equivalency Letter 

Identifies course(s) from other institutions that were used to grant credit towards a Ryerson program or certificate.  Request this letter if you were a Direct Entry transfer student from a college. This type of "block" transfer credit does not show on your official transcript, while other transfer credit does.

Third Parties

Letters and verification can be requested by students and be sent directly to third parties, or sent to students and then forwarded.

Degree Verification

The Degree Verification Service is an online service which confirms whether or not a degree (undergraduate or graduate) and/or a certificate has been received from Ryerson University. It will also specify the type of degree or certificate and the year in which it was received.

Third Party Letters

Proof of Enrolment and other letters can be requested by third parties when explicit permission is granted by the student. The student's written authorization must accompany all requests from third parties.

See the information above to confirm how Ryerson’s various letters and verification services are accessed, as well as processing times and delivery options.

Most letters are requested online through RAMSS: Request a Letter service. If you are a former student and are unable to access my.ryerson.ca, you can reset your password using the online account recovery options or by contacting the CCS Help Desk.

Charges and Delivery Options

All letters are currently being delivered by email, therefore you should not request additional copies or the fax delivery method to avoid additional charges.

Letters will be sent to the designated recipient's Ryerson email address in PDF format.

Letters are $20 each.

  • Additional copies can be requested for $5 each, up to a maximum of 5 copies.
  • Fax charges will be added to the cost of the original letter: Ontario $10, Canada $15, Other $20.


The following delivery options are available on the online request.  During the closure of the ServiceHub in-person services, we recommend that you select mail or pick-up options to avoid additional fax charges:

  • Fax: Your letter will be faxed to the number provided on your request, and the original letter will be mailed to the destination as indicated in your request. Additional fax charges will apply.
  • Mail: Ensure that your address information in RAMSS is correct before requesting this option.  Letters will be mailed to one address only. Courier service is not available.
    All copies will be mailed in one large envelope to one address. You may forward/distribute individual copies of the letter to other recipients as necessary.
  • Pick-Up: Letters can be picked up at the ServiceHub (POD150). You will be asked to provide photo identification.
Alternative Letter Request

Graduate Students

Graduate students must use the Third Party Letter Request Form to request Proof of Enrolment, Eligibility to Graduate, and other third party letter requests.  Forms can be paid for in person at the ServiceHub, and must be submitted to your Graduate Program Administrator.

Undergraduate and Chang School Students

A Letter Request Form is available for undergraduate and Chang School students only when the online request is not an option. The completed form must be sent along with payment to the ServiceHub. In order to ensure the privacy of your financial information, forms are not accepted by email. Note, an additional five business days are required for processing paper requests.
