Initiative

The Sustainable Buildings Group (SBG) at Toronto Metropolitan University was founded to provide focus on researching current and future issues faced by society relating to building science and sustainable buildings.

Currently, the SBG is headed by its founder, Professor Russell Richman and comprises anywhere between 8 and 15 graduate students at all levels from the Graduate Program in Building Science at Toronto Metropolitan University. Professor Richman's vision is to expand the group across the university in order to pool the academic and intellectual resources required to solve the multi-disciplinary problems related to sustainable buildings facing present and future generations.

The SBG works to solve detailed research questions that forma broad wholistic solution to a given problem. Currently, the SBG places focus on Materials Research (Mass Timber & Masonry), Archetype Based Research, Passive House Standards, Sustainable Revonation, Low-Energy Buildings and Advanced Building Envelopes.
