Vision and Mission
Our Context
The backbone of our nation's economy, Canada's infrastructure has been long suffering. The reasons are systemic. They include funding deficit, non-informed infrastructure policy, and uncoordinated systems planning, and ineffective engineering design and management. Extreme events due to climate change and terrorist attacks compound the issues. Meanwhile, public expectation on infrastructure has also evolved from safety, health and mobility to intelligence, resilience, sustainability and flexibility. To meet these challenges, we need investment on research and innovation.
Vision
To be a world-renowned research and innovation institute providing systematic solutions to urban infrastructure challenges.
Mission
RIII convenes cross-sector stakeholders, conducts interdisciplinary research and trains high quality personnel to provide systematic technical and policy solutions to urban infrastructure challenges.
