On June 12, The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital hosted the second annual Biomedical Engineering & Sciences Technology (BEST) Research Symposium jointly organized by Ryerson University and St. Michael’s Hospital.

This was the first major collaborative event with a community partner organized by the new Faculty of Science. It featured welcoming speeches of the presidents of the two institutions and continued with scientific presentations, discussions and displays.

Over 140 researchers and students from the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, and St. Michael's Hospital spent a day of networking, presentations, and panel discussions on digital health and neuroscience. They witnessed a captivating presentation on Neuroinformatics in BrainCODE for BOLD fMRI and Brain Networks delivered by Dr. Stephen Strother, Senior scientist at the Rotman Research Institute, Baycrest, and Professor at the University of Toronto.

Scientists, physicians, and engineers explored opportunities to meet and discuss medical research areas of priority, and to expand collaborative activities between researchers at Ryerson University and St. Michael’s Hospital.

The day ended with a student poster and demo competition. Thirty posters and four prototypes entered the competition. After thoughtful judging, prizes were awarded to the following students:
