Summer Camp

SciXchange hosts summer programs to keep kids learning and interested in science throughout the summer break through a variety of camps tailored to different age groups and learning outcomes. SciXchange partners with the Ryerson Day Camps to host the Eureka! science discovery camp. SciXchange has also put on programs for high school students focused on leadership, mentorship, and preparing for a future career in STEM.

We are currently in the process of determining our programs for Summer 2020. Information will be updated as soon as it is confirmed. Check back regularly for updates.

The camp is structured for campers to get exposure to science and engineering concepts in an engaging way. The campers also get time in their day for physical activity with the Ryerson Athletics staff, where they go swimming, play different sports and get to run around outside. The mix of learning, fun and physical activity is a great environment for children to be a part of. Our camp staff love working with the campers; it makes our day when the campers go away learning something, especially when they had fun in the process.

2020 was a unique summer. We hosted a virtual camp for the first time due to COVID-19. See our article on the 2020 Eureka! Virtual Camp experience.

In August 2017 we launched our new summer day camp: Camp SoSci! This camp is unique because it works towards addressing the factors that prevent youth from feeling comfortable in the science community, and helps campers build resilience and motivation to pursue a science-literate life.

Each day, students interacted with scientists who themselves are underrepresented in their fields. The program introduces campers to scientific research from actual scientists in a variety of scientific fields, and engages campers in hands-on learning.

We would like to thank our guest scientists for donating their time to our camp!

Stoodis Science Future Scientists Program

In August 2020, we piloted an online program for Indigenous youth to engage with scientists in different STEM fields, and explore how their own culture and knowledge can advance their careers in STEM. Attendees spent 3 days networking with science professionals, learned more about life at university, and developed their own social media content to engage with the public in science communication.

We would like to thank all of the individuals that contributed to the success of the program!
