Pre-Orientation: Get Ryerson Ready

In response to COVID-19, all #RoadtoRyerson events will be hosted online via various online platforms. To view all of the events we have planned this year, please visit connectru.ryerson.ca.

There are many supports available for your success before you start your academic journey. Pre-Orientation Events and Get Ryerson Ready are your first stops to learn everything you need to know for your first few days, weeks, and years at Ryerson. Pre-Orientation events and workshops are available for viewing now and the information below will give you all of the details you need to participate! Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter for up to date information, new events and to receive information about the upcoming Get Ryerson Ready program.

Pre-Orientation Events and Get Ryerson Ready

Whether you are excited or nervous (or a mix of both!) about your first year at Ryerson, we've got you! We're hosting events, workshops, and other experiences for students and their parents and supporters to help all incoming Ryerson students get ready for their first semester. Our goal with both of these programs is to offer enhanced summer transition programming for all incoming students to ensure you are feeling Ryerson ready to be successful as a first-year student. Pre-Orientation events offers an opportunity for you to get acquainted with Ryerson through events and workshops hosted by various student services and departments on campus in an unstructured format. SHARPER Student - Transitioning to University 

 Wednesday May 12th, 2021 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM

This will be a safe space to discuss your transition from high school to university. We will talk about what you can expect from the university experience, what you need to do to prepare and the role your health and wellbeing play in your success. Bring your quesitons and come prepared for a fun discussion.

Family, Friends and Supporters Orientation

 Tuesday May 18th, 2021 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM

You’ve reached this important milestone. Going to university is a passage marked by change, exploration, growth and self-discovery. Both you and your student will be faced with the challenge of “letting go” as they mature, assert their independence, and step out of the final stages of adolescence and into adulthood. At times, you may be the first person to whom they turn with a problem; at others they may fiercely resist your efforts to intervene. Old expectations and patterns of interacting will give way to new roles, understandings, and ways of relating.

Shut Up and Write 

 Thursday May 27th, 2021 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Are you struggling with writer’s block or procrastinating on your writing assignments? During this two hour session, prospective Ryerson students are invited to put away distractions, set achievable goals, and write! If you have questions about your writing or need some extra motivation, a writing expert will be available to support you. Please bring your own writing assignments or personal writing projects to work on.

The Fundamentals of Academic Integrity at Ryerson

 Thursday May 27th, 2021 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM

This event introduces students to the Academic Integrity Office (AIO) by describing Policy 60 and the role that the AIO plays in administering it, and by highlighting student involvement in the promotion of academic integrity. Student academic integrity ambassadors will present a Kahoot! quiz on the fundamentals of academic integrity at Ryerson. After you leave this session, you will have the skills that you need to succeed with integrity, navigate potentially tricky group situations, and locate key resources that will support you throughout your undergraduate career.

Achieving Student Success - Time Management, and Exam and Assignment Preparation

 Monday May 31st, 2021 from 5:00 - 6:00 PM

This two-part workshop will prepare you for university lectures and provide you with applicable skills and tools that will assist you as you complete your final year in high school.

Part I: Time flies, but where does it go? This session will help you become more aware of how you are using your time and whether this use reflects your current priorities. Join us to learn more about personal scheduling tools and how to plan effectively and with purpose. How do you meet your short and long-term academic goals?


Part II: Assignments look different in university. Join us to learn more about how tests, exams, and assignments 'work' and where you can go for help in your first year at Ryerson.

 Parents, Friends and Supporters Orientation

This is where the Family, Friends and Supporters Orientation may be able to help. Throughout the Summer we’ll be hosting several sessions where we invite numerous campus partners to speak to the services and resources they provide to students. Each session will begin with a short presentation, after which we will break off into smaller groups where you will have an opportunity to speak to all of the representatives we have available in the form of a Human Library. 

Please fill out the RSVP form to ensure any questions you have or topics/themes you would like discussed are included in all sessions we host.

We want to ensure that you have all of the information you need for the programming happening throughout the summer that will support your transition into Ryerson.

Multiple Ways to Experience Our Programming

Considering diverse learning styles and preferences, all of our programming will utilize multiple methods of delivery including online instructor-led learning, self-directed e-learning, and drop-in sessions (if/when it is possible).

Pathways to Guide Your Transition

During Get Ryerson Ready, structured pathways will guide you through writing, math, study skills, wellness and community-focused programs to ease the transition into your studies in the fall 2021 term. You can choose to follow these pathways or create your own learning experience! Programming will utilize technology platforms that you will also use throughout your studies at Ryerson, preparing you for life at Ryerson both online and in-person.

Get Ryerson Ready utilizes pathways to guide you through 5 streams: Writing, Math, Study Skills, Health and Wellness and Community. The aim of these programs is to ease your transition into Fall 2021. We will be using tech platforms that you will be using through your studies at Ryerson, giving you the opportunity to get familiar with them!
