How it Works

Students approved for Fresh Start by their department are automatically enrolled in the program.

The Fresh Start Strategies course is part of TMU's overall support strategy for students in academic jeopardy, and is designed to assist students with Required to Withdraw (RTW) standing in resuming their studies. In this 9-week skills-building hybrid course, comprising both synchronous and asynchronous sessions, you will take control of your learning through self-determined learning strategies and reflective practice.

Moreover, this course challenges you to critically examine your purposeful goals in higher education while reflecting on and re-evaluating your personal learning strengths. In addition, you will engage with a myriad of learning success tools and strategies that will help you set a personal academic achievement goal for the semester, develop a better understanding and identification of your learning styles and patterns, as well as provide you with the foundational skills necessary for student success.

Upon successful completion of both the Fresh Start Strategies course and the two Extended Academic Probation Contracts, you will be permitted to continue in your program with Probation or Clear standing based on your past academic performance.

Definitions of these standings are available on the Transcript Legend page.
